My BEGINNINGS WERE HUMBLE
It all started with my love for minerals and fossils. I was a mineral dealer for 5 years under the name Rocky Mountain Gems and Minerals before I decided to start my first mineral and fossil show.
My first mineral and fossil show started in Denver Colorado, spring time in the Rocky Mountains and I had 65 dealers all ready to go! Thanks to Marty Zinn for helping with a list of dealers who were ready to sign up for the show.
I thought I was on top of the world thinking everything was going as planned. Well as we were setting up tents in the parking lot two days before the show, a gorgeous spring day, 70 degrees and sunny, I got the word that a major snow storm was going to hit Denver in a few days! I was horrified! I had to make the decision to take down the tents and try and find room for the wholesale dealers somewhere inside the convention center which had been completely booked except for my small convention space that I had booked.
Luckily since it was a major storm several other scheduled groups had cancelled and we were able to find room for the wholesale dealers in the convention center. It did turn out to be a major storm, airport shut down, 800 flights cancelled, 4 feet of snow reported in surrounding suburbs, and we had two and half feet of snow at the convention center. The dealers were amazing and they put their best efforts into making it a great show, and many mineral collectors made it to the show, and I felt fortunate that we had a decent show!
The next year I made a deal with Marty Zinn to purchase his September show that had been in existence for 30 year and move the show to my new location at the Crowne Plaza. This was a challenging time for me and the dealers who were asked after 30 years to move to a new facility. The following year I had my first mega show, and the dealers again were amazing designing the booths to show the mineral and fossil community that they were ready for a new show.
This is how I established the Colorado Mineral and Fossil Spring & Fall Shows. I decided it was time to brand my company to RMGM Promotions (Rocky Mountain Gems and Minerals) especially since I decided to venture out of Colorado.
I have chosen Texas for our next show, The Texas Mineral and Fossil Show. I chose Texas because there are a lot of Texans who love beautiful mineral and fossils. The show will be in Conroe Texas!
See you at the shows!
